Today’s story きょうの あらすじ

This is from when the guests from Thailand were here. We went out for yakiniku, which in Japan really is delicious. Looking at the menu, they were startled by the prices. They come to Japan often and know what things cost; their last visit was a year ago, and at the very same restaurant the prices had risen considerably. In Thailand, they said, prices climbing is simply normal, but in Japan they had stayed the same for years and have suddenly begun to rise. Conversations like that are one of the gifts of studying languages.
