Once a week since May I have worked at a different workplace. Yesterday we finished early and several of us went for tea — people of all ages and jobs whom I would never meet otherwise. The one who spoke up first was a deeply tanned man of sixty-seven. His hobby is sailing, and he is out on the water most weeks; sometimes he sails the thousand kilometers to the Ogasawara Islands, the farthest islands that still belong to Tokyo. I have always wanted to go there, but it is too far — and he simply sails there himself.
