I had come back from my parents' house in Osaka, and it was an evening meal alone in Tokyo. Wondering what to eat, what I arrived at was good wine, good bread and good soup. My father is eighty-seven and loves to eat: an old man fond of grilled fish, sashimi and sake. When I eat with him at my parents' house, I enjoy grilled fish, sashimi and sake as well. But after days like that, I almost always want bread, soup and good wine instead. So today I made a soup of cabbage, onion, garlic and tomato, and enjoyed it with a good baguette and wine. It was very good. However delicious a thing may be, eating it every day makes you forget how delicious it is. Keeping a balance, I hope to eat just the amount that lets me feel good food as good food.
