Last night I arrived in Thailand from Tokyo's Haneda Airport. The flight I had booked was due to leave at half past ten in the morning, but the day before, the airline got in touch to say the departure had been moved to half past three in the afternoon. It gave me plenty of time before leaving home, but in exchange it was eight at night by the time I reached Thailand. I am going to spend a few quiet days at the home of my Thai friend, where I have been welcomed as a homestay guest almost every year for more than fifteen years. This morning I ate a Thai home-cooked breakfast, just as I always do here, and that alone was enough to make me happy.
